Can the blind lead the blind?
“The blind leads the blind” can still be heard today to describe the incapable who leads the equally incapable. If our goal is to reduce our blindness – to see more clearly – then it does not help to focus on the blindness of our companions.
Others have mistakes, me too. We benefit from honest self-reflection, but are often not comfortable with the process or the results. It’s easy to fault, blame, scapegoat, and avoid responsibility. So often the blind spots of others are explained on social media platforms where hypocrisy – playing a role – thrives.
Shaming others for their mistakes does nothing to reduce our own. Kindly put, if we observe our own weaknesses and weaknesses with a dose of self-compassion, we may also tend to see others with greater compassion. Loving God, we learn from your patience with us in our struggle to “remove the tree trunk in our own eyes” trusting that you still love us.
