Day of repentance
Genesis 17: 1, 9-10, 15-22. See the Lord bless those who fear Him – Ps 127 (128): 1-5. Matthew 8: 1-4.
The experiences of Abraham and the leper are quite similar
In both lives there is a void that God and only God can touch. The divine fills this void not only by removing a handicap or limitation – in these cases illness or sterility – but by giving oneself up in an intimate relationship. The Abrahamic covenant is not just a legal contract: it arises from sensitivity to deep human desires.
God’s response to Abraham – and to us – is the same as Jesus’ response to the leper: “Of course I want to. Be healed!” As our intimacy with the Lord becomes more and more the focus of our lives, we feel the many moments in which God responds to our personal needs with these words: “Of course I want!”
