The world is sad when we hear of the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse. His life was taken from him in his private home in the early morning hours of today’s July 7th, 2021. According to the New York Times, his wife Martine Moïse was also shot dead in the attack.
The same article states: “‘A group of unidentified people, some of whom speak Spanish, attacked the private residence of the President of the Republic, mortally wounding the head of state,'” the Prime Minister said, but little solid information was available on who could have committed the assassination. “

Lord Jesus, you are close to the broken. As this situation develops, we pray for the Moïse family. We can only imagine the sadness in their hearts when someone so loved is taken from them. We pray for Martine’s treatment and healing and recovery and that you will bring that comfort and encouragement from the family in the days to come. Jesus, sometimes there are no words to express our sadness. We only know that you are a God of justice and mercy and that you also hurt when we hurt. Amen.
A prayer for Haiti as they experience this national tragedy
Heavenly Father, I can only imagine the fear many of my brothers and sisters in Christ are in Haiti right now. They may listen carefully to the radio to get the news and likely raise prayers to you for comfort and guidance. I ask you to bring them peace in uncertainty. Remind them that you are always with them, even in the darkest valley. Show us how we can now help our brothers and sisters in Haiti not only through our prayers but also through our actions. Amen.

Lord, when a nation encounters a tragic situation, it can often take a while for all of the details to emerge. We pray that those facing uncertainty now will hold on to you. Because you are our hope, our healer, our provider. Give people a peace that goes beyond understanding and soon let clarity and light come into the situation. Amen.

Jesus, so much pain has hit the land of Haiti. We know that you are both a God of mercy and a God of justice. We ask you to be present in this situation and to pass your judgment on these heinous acts. Amen.

Let us keep the Moïse family and the nation of Haiti in our prayers as the details of the situation continue to unravel. Obnoxious acts like this can shake us to the core and scare us. But it is at these moments that we must remember to cling to the Lord and lift up those who are hurt and frightened.
