The kingdom of God is a mustard seed that grows into the largest shrub of all
Today’s gospel always reminds me of the song by Australian artists Paul Kelly and Kev Carmody, ‘From Little Things Big Things Grow’. It was published in 1991 and tells the story of the Gurindji people’s struggle for equality and land rights after they left the Wave Hill property in 1966. “We know how to wait,” says their leader Vincent Lingiari in the text. How do we wait for the kingdom of God? Do we sow seeds of faith and righteousness and wait for them to grow, or do we think that the kingdom, while naturally desirable, is so distant that we need not now worry about cultivating it on earth?
In love of God we pray for the courage to sow the seeds of your kingdom, the faith to wait for it to grow and for the joy of sharing in your great harvest.
