Trust in God because God loves us more than we can know
It is a good thing that this festival falls on a Sunday because it gets the attention it deserves. Saint Mary of the Cross is an Australian heroine and the readings celebrate this in an important way. The woman who gives Elijah food trusted like St. Mary and gave everything confidently, even if it cost her a lot personally. Psalm 62 is used for all major saints’ feasts and also for Mary. It speaks of the soul which, above all, longs and thirsts for God. It is very fitting that this is also used for St. Mary. Jesus tells us in the gospel not to worry about ordinary things; what we wear, what we eat, where we live. Trust in God because God loves us more than we can know.
