In the Carey Cup, Ireland plays against the Metropolitan Golf Association in the biannual event. An expanded format will be introduced for the 2021 competition, in which the teams will be expanded from six to ten players. Four female players will join six men on the Irish team when the event takes place on October 12-13 on the Montgomerie Course at Carton House.
Three of Ireland’s teams from the men’s recent home internationals will be selected, with Marc Boucher (Carton House), Hugh Foley (Royal Dublin) and Robert Moran (Castle) making the selection. The trio is supported by David Kitt (Athenry), Richard Knightly (Royal Dublin) and Jake Whelan (Grange).
Paula Grant (Lisburn), Kate Lanigan (Hermitage), Rachel Thompson (Cork) and Aideen Walsh (Lahinch) will make history by becoming the first Irish women to attend the event.
Four players will represent Ireland at Spirit International in Texas from November 4th to 6th.
The biennial event takes place at Whispering Pines GC and the Irish team competes in team and individual competitions in a 54-hole competition.
Sara Byrne (Douglas), Paul Coughlan (Enniscorthy), Aine Donegan (Lahinch) and Sam Murphy (Portumna) compete in the men and women, with 20 countries represented.
