How do we help grow our faith communities?
What keeps us in faith is often the community with which we share that faith. The people who make up these communities become a “great consolation in the midst of our own needs and worries”, as the Thessalonians did for St. Paul are.
There is nothing surprising in this, and certainly nothing inappropriateness. We should lean on one another in faith because we are human beings, created in the image and likeness of the Trinitarian God and thus created for relationship. Our relationships with one another can help us stay in touch with God.
It is striking that often when Jesus wants us to think about our own approach to the kingdom of heaven, he does so by explaining how we treat one another. We might wonder if we find ourselves in denominations, and if so, how do we help them grow?
