Don’t take anything with you for the trip
Luke says: ‘The twelve were sent to proclaim and heal the kingdom of God.’ This remains the fundamental task of every disciple in every age. So don’t worry about having enough clothes or money. The proclamation of the presence of the Kingdom of God has undoubtedly brought healing of body, mind and soul to many people over the centuries. Prayer would have been an integral part of the journey of the twelve. It is essential for our trip as well. Ezra’s first reading prayer today is a confession of sin, the community sin of the people. It was about 400 BC, and the descendants of exile were still struggling to rebuild the temple. Ezra is ashamed and ashamed to raise his face to God. But he also knows that God was with them when they repaired the ruins. His public prayer brought the kingdom of God and healing to the church.
