From now on we do not judge anyone by the standards of the flesh
What does it mean, as Paul writes, “not to look at anyone from a worldly point of view”? Thomas Merton’s famous revelation in Louisville on the corner of Fourth and Walnut Streets was a realization of “the immense joy of being human, a member of a race in which God himself became human. . . ‘ and that all people ‘run around shining like the sun’. The Incarnation must change our view not only of God, but of ourselves and all of humanity. Followers of Christ have the opportunity, like Merton, to see that there is a “secret beauty” in the heart of every human being that even they are not aware of.
