Netflix Announces New Anime Spinoff, Bright: Samurai Soul

Netflix knows that anime has unlimited possibilities and has pushed the medium to its limits in recent years. Now it seems like the streaming service is ready to lead a new original series based on a well-known franchise. After all, Will Smiths Bright is getting an anime spin and will join two heroes on their journey to bring home a lost girl.

The announcement was made today during Netflix’s Geeked Week. It was there that Bright fans learned: Samurai Soul is being worked on behind the scenes and is set in the same world as the live-action film Bright.

According to Netflix, Bright: Samurai Soul tells the story of Izo, who works as a ronin. He is accompanied by an orc named Raiden who travels the country to bring home a lost elf girl. The mysterious child has to find his people in the north, so these two fighters accompany them home through all sorts of treacherous countries. And to make matters worse, the elf girl appears to have a wand in her possession that others would like to take.

Little is known about the film at this point, but Bright: Samurai Soul is directed by Kyohei Ishiguro. It’s one of several projects that is being worked on behind the scenes at Netflix. The streaming service also confirmed that two horror anime series are in the works. One is called Exception, while the other is called Make My Day.
