Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska names new CEO

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska announced on Friday that Sarah Waldman has become the council’s new chief executive officer. She will officially take up her role on October 25th.

Waldman most recently served as Executive Director of the TeamMates Mentoring Program, the school-based mentoring program founded by Tom and Nancy Osborne. She ran the regional nonprofit that operates 175 local chapters in five states and serves over 10,000 youth annually.

“Sarah brings a wealth of leadership experience and a passion and enthusiasm for working with youth and community service,” said Kate Betsworth, president of the Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska. “The board is very excited to bring a leader of Sarah’s caliber into our movement.”

Prior to joining TeamMates, Waldman gained leadership experience at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, where he served as an HR Attorney, Vice President of Human Resources, Vice President of Ethical Practices, and Senior Vice President of Administration.

Waldman earned a law degree from Creighton University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Nebraska, Omaha. She is on the board of Whispering Roots, trustee of the Business Ethics Alliance and previously served on the boards of TeamMates, ICAN: Institute for Career Advancement Needs, the Business Ethics Alliance, the UN Alumni Association and the Community Alliance.

“This is a very exciting time to join the Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska team,” said Waldman. “The dedicated staff and volunteers have created a wonderful basis to build girls with courage, self-confidence and character. I look forward to continuing this foundation to expand youth and adult membership and community support for girls across the state. “

Waldman’s hiring follows an extensive search process conducted by a CEO Search Task Force composed of members of the organization’s board of directors.

The current CEO, Fran Marshall, will leave her position in mid-November after leading the organization for 14 years. Marshall was the first CEO of Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska. She led the original five Nebraska Boy Scout Councils as they grew into a statewide organization.
