St. Vincent de Paul

Zechariah 8: 1-8. The Lord will rebuild Zion and appear in all his glory – Psalm 101 (102): 16-21, 29, 22-23. Luke 9: 46-50.

We pray that God will find a way to use our abilities

Almost by definition, humility is not something people brag about. However, a sense of humility is an important quality if we are to be authentic in our following.

In today’s reading, Jesus addresses a dispute over status among his disciples by calling for humility. The smallest, he says, is the greatest.

Many saints are recognized for their humility. Saint Alfonso Rodriguez was a Spanish lay brother who was told he was not educated enough to be a brother or a priest, but he devoted his life nonetheless to serving his community as a doorkeeper.

We pray today for a sense of humility in our own calling and that God will find a way to use even the smallest of abilities in the service of the Kingdom.
