Just when things couldn’t get darker for Sydney siders, Splendor in the Grass announced that they have canceled their Sydney pop-up event Splendor in the City – just weeks after the launch date was published.
Splendor in the Grass just announced the cancellation of their Splendor in the City pop-up festival in Sydney due to COVID-19 restrictions and uncertainties.
“With Greater Sydney currently on lockdown until July 9th and Covid outbreaks now developing in other states, it has become impossible to continue plans to move artists and staff across the country and also to set up the event in Sydney,” said Splendor in a statement.
“We also recognize that the health and safety of employees, volunteers and ticket holders, in accordance with the health recommendations of the authorities, is paramount.”
The tragic news comes as the COVID-19 outbreaks in Sydney deteriorate significantly and spread across the country. To date, the Bondi cluster in Sydney has grown to 124 confirmed cases, with our list of exposure sites growing to a whopping 257.
“Given the uncertainty about the availability of the venue and artists in the coming months and the IRL Splendor in the Grass planned for November, we made the difficult decision to cancel Splendor in the City instead of postponing it,” said Splendor.
The fans are obviously devastated, especially considering how much the live music scene was absolutely wiped out in March last year when COVID was here at its worst.
“This is a heartbreaking situation for all of the crew, material and artists who worked hard to deliver this event for Sydney,” said Jessica Ducro, the co-CEO of Secret Sounds.
“Splendor in the City should provide urgently needed income for our live music industry, which has been devastated since March 2020. We would like to thank all music lovers who bought tickets. Your continuous support is very much appreciated. “
All is not lost, however – Splendor XR, the world’s first extended reality event from Splendor, is still running as it is COVID safe online.
If you’d told us when we formed the band that one day we’d headline an immersive, virtual music festival, we would have said, “Hmm?” See you on July 25th @splendourinthegrass! pic.twitter.com/R8alplAXxu

Splendor XR is basically an online festival set for the weekend of July 24th and 25th. The setlist is pretty darn good with the likes of Khalid, The murderers, Chvrches, Denzel curry, Charlie XCX, and Aurora. You can see the entire list of artists here.
Moshtix will refund tickets for Splendor in the City starting Tuesday June 29, but anticipates delays and long waiting times due to the number of orders to be processed.
