What is the best path that might lead us to the fruits of righteousness?
Today’s readings examine what it means to follow God’s way. Jesus’ words to his disciples echo the passage in the First Reading where the righteous are afflicted by the wicked. The Second Reading examines what makes people focus on what is just – jealousy and selfish ambition – that are the cause of disorder and wrongful practices. Another way is suggested – one of purity, peace, meekness, and conformity to the will of God.
In a month that has become a time of prayer for creation in the Church in recent years, it may be worth reflecting on what these readings mean for our relationship with the environment. Are we driven by selfish needs in our actions or are we driven by what we believe is right for all of creation? What is the best path that might lead us to the fruits of righteousness?
