The poor widow did more than anything
As a child, I had the Little Arch Book of Today’s Gospel and it always troubled me. I couldn’t imagine how Jesus would excuse the woman who dropped her last coins and starved to support the treasury. But, as always, Jesus takes the lesson deeper and looks beyond the obvious. We should always see a person’s contribution as part of their whole self. It can be all too easy to ridicule someone who is struggling to contribute something that would be easy for us to do. We don’t know their story, how they got to where they are now. Therefore, we must be grateful for all that someone can give and also give them our time to hear their story and get to know it.
