How do we experience Jesus in our lives?
Herod’s curiosity is piqued by the stories he heard about Jesus. It must have been an extraordinary experience for him to finally meet him face to face. It is not surprising that he was confused. The thought that Jesus might be John the Baptist, whom he beheaded, added to his confusion. Today’s gospel story highlights an important point that we need to understand — that is, the difference between knowing someone by hearsay rather than knowing them personally. Perhaps we need to ask ourselves who we think Jesus is and how we experience him in our lives. This is an important question in a world that seems to have little time for God and the things of God. As we strive to gain a deeper understanding of how we experience Jesus, we can strengthen our relationship with him. It can also point out aspects of our relationship with him that need to be improved.
