Get ready for the action and light your lamps
I find that if I want to make a significant change in my life – be it more exercise, better food, or some public relations – I think it’s best to start right away. It takes time to develop a new habit and it is easy to get distracted. The more I put off something, the less likely it is that I will come up with it.
The spiritual life is similar to this. In today’s reading, Jesus warns his disciples that they should be ready at any time for God to come. If they are to be prepared for the coming of God, they must be vigilant now. If we want to be more faithful in our prayers and more helpful to our neighbors, today is the time to start.
