The wonderful attraction of God

There is something profoundly attractive about God. We also recognize something scary. But isn’t this fear an expression of the extent of our astonishment and awe of the One who is our origin and our goal?

When we come close to our God: in the Eucharist, in our praying confrontation with the Scriptures, in silent devotional prayer, in the presence of true service, we sometimes feel that our faces shine like Moses’ face. We radiate the life giving power of God.

We know what Jesus means when he describes the kingdom of heaven as something precious, for which we are ready to leave everything behind. References to hidden treasures and precious pearls do not leave us imaginatively stuck in the material world. They draw us to see the wonderful attraction of God. The overwhelming beauty that keeps us, full of joy, delighted.
