Osoyoos is a true desert getaway, and one with an “endless summer” as temperatures stay warm for much longer, well into the fall season. This desert also boasts many “fountains”, with award-winning wineries nearby, including on-site. Here you will discover the first indigenous winery in North America, NK’MIP (pronounced in-ka-meep) Cellars. A cultural celebration of the Osoyoos Indian Band, NK’MIP Cellars is a testament to Chief Clarence Louie’s innovation and vision and dream of planting vineyards and building a winery.

The winery is a joint venture between the Osoyoos Indian Band (Sylix People) and Arterra Wines Canada. The winery is in the midst of the many amenities Spirit Ridge has to offer, including the beautiful Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Center, operated by the Osoyoos Indian Band. The center offers an insight into the history, countries, legends and people of the band. The winery also has a terrace restaurant that serves indigenous dishes from the region brought to the table from the farm.

This four-star resort offers 226 guest rooms with fireplaces, patios with BBQs and full kitchens. Guests who prefer not to prepare meals at home can enjoy the cuisine of acclaimed Chef Murray McDonald at Spirit Ridge’s iconic restaurant: The Bear, The Fish, The Root & The Berry, an apt name celebrating the hyperlocal foraging philosophy here .

The guests of this desert oasis will really lack for nothing. There are shuttles into town and down to the resort’s private beach, lovely walks around the property into the vineyards and hills. And the resort also arranges wonderful activities for its guests and the community to attend, such as painting classes offered by Artist in Residence Daina Deblette, children’s art camps, and creative travel journaling.

Spirit Ridge is literally a feast for the senses – both physically and spiritually it offers the perfect adventure away from home.
