How to Fight Anxiety by Praying the Names of God

5. Adonai, Lord of All

Lord Jesus be my Lord every moment of the day. Help me surrender to your care, rest in your embrace. Remind me how faithful and trustworthy you are, my master. You have full authority over my life and the lives of those I love, but your power doesn’t stop there. You are the Lord of everything, the Sovereign Ruler of everything that exists and is to come.

You are the King of kings and the Lord of lords, raising one man to power and humiliating another. You are not surprised, delayed, directed, or discouraged by today’s political and economic climate. I will not be afraid if others rise up against me, slander me or despise me because I know who has my future. You alone define my role and my “lot” and ensure that the boundaries that you have set around me actually fall in pleasant places.

You, who have promised me a hope and a future, are fully capable of realizing that future. And so I follow how you lead, sir, my master, with confidence and peace, because I know that you are walking in front of me, standing behind me and will walk next to me forever.

6. Abba, father

How is it that the Creator of the universe, who created time and space and set our solar system in motion, took care of me? How can Almighty God call me his child in my weak and often sinful state? Help me remember the intimate relationship that name implies. Do not let me forget the privilege I was given through the death and resurrection of your son.

Christ, telling me to address you as a Father, as Abba, paid the price I needed to get close. I was redeemed through His blood and accepted into your divine and global family. I am loved, valued, never forgotten and never alone. I come to you now with the same expectation, confidence and boldness with which a little child comes to the papa she loves. I’m not holding anything back, sir. I bring my prayers unfiltered as I know you hear every word. And I know that you will answer as you think best, with the love that a loyal, devoted father shows for his ever-dependent child.

You are my protector, my provider, who always welcomes me warmly and will never turn me away. May I wait eagerly for our encounters while a toddler looks out the window and looks for his daddy. Lord, teach me to know you and trust you more.

As we pray each of the names of God, we may pause to ponder the truths that are contained in each one. May these truths about who God is, all that He has promised and all that He has yet to do, bring peace, strength, and comfort to our fearful hearts. May we remember that no matter what we encounter, we have everything we need in our Father, our King. Nobody and nothing can separate us from their love.
