St. Peter Chrysologus. Day of repentance

Leviticus 23: 1, 4-11, 15-16, 27, 34-37. Sing with joy to God our help – Ps 80 (81): 3-6, 10-11. Matthew 13: 54-58.

Where did he get his wisdom from?

Today’s Gospel tells of Jesus’ visit to his home village of Nazareth. It was a disappointment. As he spoke in the synagogue, people wondered where his wisdom and power to work miracles came from. They thought they knew him because they knew his relatives who were just ordinary people. They resented his words and tried to kill him. Far from the hospitality that Martha and her household showed him.

Because of their lack of faith, he couldn’t work many miracles – he couldn’t. Dear Lord, help us to accept you, to welcome you like Martha. We pray for those who cannot.
