St. Stephen of Hungary

Judges 2: 11-19. Lord, remember us because of the love you show your people – Ps 105 (106): 34-37, 39-40, 43-44. Matthew 19: 16-22.

If you want to be perfect, go and sell what you own

Wouldn’t you love a decent man
with lofty wishes and a loyal heart,
who navigates through the narrowness of life,
then longs to go the extra mile?

When Jesus told him to sell
the lot – his farm, his estate and his cows –
and follow Jesus’ wandering life
he turned away in sadness and shame.

Don’t you feel with him And if
Your daughter bet the court on Jesus’ call
to follow him through death to life,
would you trust that God will be with her?
