Genesis 18: 1-15. The Lord has thought of His mercy – Luke 1: 46-50, 53-55. Matthew 8: 5-17.

We are invited to see how generous God is

‘Is something too wonderful for the Lord?’ When the Lord Abraham appears as three men in the oak of Mamre, Abraham does not think of it. Abraham seems to sense that this is the Lord and his response is generous hospitality. The sumptuous meal of bread, milk and meat contrasts with the harshness of the desert heat.

The Lord is generous in ways that shock and surprise Abraham and, even more, Sarah. The possibility of a child makes her laugh, after all, she can no longer do it. But God makes it possible. The Lord is changing their situation.

Jesus does the same for those he meets. He heals the servant of an occupation soldier, amazed at the expression of his faith. We are invited to see how generous God is, often in unexpected ways, and how generous our response should be. Generous and loyal.
