A prophet is despised only in his own country

Sometimes our story with people gets in the way of understanding.

For example, people who have gone through a significant loss may find it difficult to reconnect with people who did not see the journey they went through. Those who have had a meaningful experience abroad may find it difficult to get back to their old rhythms of life and relationships when they get home. It can sometimes be difficult for old friends and family to familiarize themselves with the “new” version of this person.

So we might have some understanding of the people of Nazareth. But this gospel reading reminds us that when people we love return to us after a period of change, it is well worth spending the time getting to know them again. Today let’s think about who we might reconnect with in our own lives.
