Exodus 14:21-15: 1. Let us sing to the Lord; he covered himself with glory – Exodus 15: 8-10, 12, 17. Matthew 12: 46-50

My mother and brothers are all who do my Heavenly Father’s will

At first, Jesus’ reaction to the messenger who told him that his “mother and brothers” were standing outside, eager to speak to him, seems extremely indifferent. He surely knew that health and wellbeing were important to them. On this particular occasion, however, Jesus’ focus was not on his immediate family but on those around him whom he identified as his new family of mother, brothers, and sisters. It was now time for Jesus to begin the work God had sent him to do, which included forming a new family of disciples to be known as the Church, a family of whom we were all baptized. It is often the case for many of us that we too have to detach ourselves from something or someone of importance, sometimes painfully, in order to do the work God asks us to do.
