I did not come to bring peace, I came with a sword

All over the world, like the Israelites, people experience daily oppression in all its forms. Oppression occurs not only in physically violent forms, but also on the mental, emotional and spiritual levels by the powerful. Likewise, the soul is oppressed by the same dominant and powerful forces that are at play in the world. In today’s gospel, Jesus speaks of reversing the accepted order of things. This overturning repressive structures requires radical change, both at the individual level and in our smaller circles, communities and society as a whole. We have to be open to see that what we consider acceptable and agreeable can also be questioned.
